Which teams made it to the next round at the World Cup?
All group-stage games have been played at the Qatar World Cup and at this point, I think it is fair to say that Qatar 2022 has given us the most entertaining group-stage games in World Cup history. The groups were so tight that no team was able to win all 3 games in their group.
The last round of games also provided enough entertainment plus ‘some big’ teams have also exited the tournament.
In Group A, the Netherlands defeated Qatar 2-nil to seal the top spot in the group. Senegal also defeated Ecuador 2 goals to 1 to clinch the second spot and qualify for the next round.
In group B, England thumped Wales by 3 goals to nil to seal the top spot. The U.S.A also managed to defeat Iran 1-nil to clinch the second spot in that group and qualify for the round of 16.
In group C, Argentina defeated Poland 2-nil to clinch the top spot despite losing their first game. Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia by 2 goals to 1 but it was not enough to see them go through. Poland, despite losing, clinched the second spot.
In group D, Tunisia defeated France 1 goal to nil in a game that ended dramatically but France still clinched the top spot in the group. Australia pulled an upset as they defeated Denmark by 1 goal to nil to clinch the second spot in the group.
In group E, Japan came back from a goal down to defeat Spain 2 goals to 1 and clinched the top spot. Germany on the other hand defeated Costa Rica by 4 goals to 2 but it was not enough to see them go through as Spain clinched the second spot.
In group F, Morocco defeated Canada by 2 goals to 1 to clinch the top spot. Croatia and Belgium played a goalless draw which was enough to see Croatia clinch the second spot and Belgium eliminated.
In group G, Cameroon pulled another spectacular upset as they defeated Brazil by 1 goal to nil but it was not enough to see them go through as Brazil clinched the top spot. Switzerland defeated Serbia by 3 goals to 2 to clinch the second spot in the group.
In group H, Uruguay defeated Ghana by 2 goals to nil but it wasn’t enough to see them go through as Portugal clinched the top spot. South Korea pulled another upset as they defeated Portugal by 2 goals to 1 to clinch the second spot kicking both Uruguay and Ghana out of the tournament.
The 16 qualified teams are the Netherlands, Senegal, the USA, England, Argentina, Poland, France, Australia, Morocco, Croatia, Portugal, South Korea, Brazil, Switzerland, Japan, and Spain.
The round of 16 fixtures is set already and begins almost immediately. Argentina vs Australia, England vs Senegal, Netherlands vs USA, France vs Poland, Japan vs Croatia, Brazil vs South Korea, Portugal vs Switzerland, and Morocco vs Spain.
