Who is APC’s Vice Presidential candidate?

Like the Labour Party, The All Progressives Congress (APC) named a placeholder candidate for the position of Vice president and on the 10th of July. The name of the certified candidate was confirmed by the Presidential flagbearer of the party himself.

He is Senator Kashim Shettima and here are a few things you should know about him:

 

 

Education

Born in Maiduguri, Borno state and currently 55 years old, Senator Kashim Shettima is one you would describe as well educated. He had his primary and secondary education in Borno state and then proceeded to attend the University of Maiduguri where he earned a BSc in Agricultural economics. He obtained an MSc in Agricultural Economics at the University of Ibadan.

 

Work Experience

He had his one-year compulsory youth service at the defunct Nigeria Agricultural Cooperative Bank in Calabar. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri till 1993. After which he ventured into banking and finance then became the head of accounts at Commercial Bank of Africa(defunct).

He moved to Zenith Bank as the head of its main branch in Maiduguri.  He became the bank’s General Manager in 2007. 

 

Political Career

His first political post came in 2007 when he was appointed the Commissioner of Finance in Borno state. He was later still appointed but as the Commissioner of Local Governments and Affairs. He served as commissioner in three more ministries(Education, Agriculture, and Health) under the governor Ali Modu Sherif.

He became the governor of Borno state in 2011 under the umbrella of the ANPP after the initial gubernatorial candidate of the ANPP at the time was assassinated. 

After leaving office, he contested the Borno central senatorial district election in 2019 and he won.

 

Family

Senator Shettima is married to Mrs. Nana Shettima and they have 3 kids together.
