If you grew up attending a Nigerian school, tag yourself below

As we age, some things become old school to us, pun intended. These days when we remember our school days and learning experience, we know that it was a blast! Funny how we looked forward to graduating so much, we didn’t realise that we were creating one of the most surreal experiences of our lives.

We might have attended different Nigerian schools, but our experiences are mostly similar. Here are some of the class maters that we are certain you will remember:

1. The rich kids: These ones come from very rich families, you will even be wondering why their parents brought them to your school, why not abroad?

2. The ‘Pablos’ : These ones will confuse you because their parents are not “rich” but somehow, they always have money.

3. The pretenders: These ones don’t have money but the way they behave ehn, you will think their money grows like grass. These ones can lie o!

4. The late comers: Even if the school is beside their house, they will still come late. Till now, I still can’t think of an excuse for them. They are always at the school gate in the morning and never attend assembly.

5. The ones that always represent the school in competition: Either inter-house sports or mathematics competition or even inter school debate, they are always there.

6. The cane chesters: These ones take cane for a living. Even if the teacher flogs them 100 strokes of the cane, they will not show any emotion.

7. The fashion crew: These ones come to school to slay. Their uniforms are well ironed, socks white, trousers jumping, shoes are well polished, etc. In my school, we call them the spice girls/boys.

8. The bad guys: The crew usually consists of average students, then the rest: way below average. These guys are either breaking girls’ hearts in school or being summoned on the assembly ground for exam malpractice.

9. The sicky sicky: These ones will come to school only twice in a month. You can’t blame the genuinely sick ones but let’s not forget those ones that miss school to attend parties or travel out.

#TheGoodStuff serves up some light reading with 2 shots of humor and a dash of sarcasm. This edition takes us back to the various kinds of students you’ll find in a Nigerian school.
