5 Nollywood flops of 2022

Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, has produced a wide variety of movies over the years. Some of these movies have been praised for their exceptional storytelling, great acting, and excellent production values, while others have been criticized for their poor quality.

In this article, we will be focusing on the latter by presenting a list of the top 5 Nollywood misses of 2022. They are presented in no particular order and are not intended to downgrade the efforts of the individuals involved in their production.

Instead, this article aims to raise awareness about these poorly made movies, and encourage the people involved in their production to improve their craft to create better content for audiences in the future.

1. Weather For Two

Released on November 25th, 2022 on Netflix. This movie was criticized for its poor storyline, terrible acting, poor effects and makeup. The scenes were described as clueless, and there was no character development or conflict.

The dialogue was also criticized as being poor, and the movie had no clear ending.

2. Finding Hubby 2

Released in September 2022 on Netflix. This movie is the sequel to “Finding Hubby” and it was a huge disappointment. Despite being advertised as a romantic comedy, it was criticized for its lack of romance and humour.

The storytelling was also described as abysmal, and the setting and camera work were below par. The light and makeup were also criticized as being inadequate.

3. My Village People

Released in 2021 and later made available on Netflix by July 2022. This movie is a horror/comedy and it failed to deliver on both counts. It was criticized for its poor character development, weak storytelling (the old witches’ role in the movie was not well explained), and inappropriate setting.

Plus the sound was quite substandard.

4. Glamour Girls

Released on Netflix, on June 24, 2022, from the producers of Living In Bondage: Breaking Free and Rattle Snake: The Ahanna Story, this movie is a remake of the 1994 Nollywood blockbuster, “Glamour Girls” and it did not live up to the expectations.

Glamour Girls‘ casting, acting, character development, soundtracks, and plot were all poor, making it a huge disappointment.

5. The Perfect Arrangement

Released in Cinemas on May 13th, 2022 but not (yet) on Netflix. Perfect Arrangement was criticized for its poor storytelling, absurd storyline, unrealistic and unnecessary scenes, poor audio and sound, bad acting, and poor casting.

The transitioning between scenes was also criticized as being weak, making it feel like a PowerPoint presentation.
