The best of Hollywood in 2022!

A good number of American movies were released this year; the good, the bad and the abominable. As the year gradually comes to an end, we’ve put together a list of our top ten Hollywood movies of 2022 (Also check out our top 1o Nollywood movies of 2022).

From Moonfall to Bullet Train, which one was your favourite?

10. Moonfall

Released on the 4th of February 2022, Moonfall is a Sci-fi/action movie that sees a mysterious force throw the moon out of orbit and hurdles it on a collision course towards earth. Three astronauts are then sent on a mission to understand the issue and prevent the loss of lives.

The movie’s star-studded cast includes Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, and John Bradley.

9. Death On The Nile

The 9th movie on our list is a mystery/crime movie released on the 11th of February 2022. We’re sure you can already guess what the movie was centred on from the title and the genre.

However, don’t be quick to judge this book by its cover.

8. The Adam Project

Released on 28th February 2022 and coming in at number 8 is the sci-fi/drama The Adam Project.

Adam Reeds, a time-travelling fighter pilot accidentally crash-lands in 2022 then teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future.

The star of this movie is the one and only Ryan Reynolds.

7. Day Shift

We’ll tell you what…you’ll probably not see a more engaging vampire movie in a long time. Our 7th pick, Day Shift is supposed to be a horror movie, but it’s more funny than it is scary.

Don’t take it the wrong way though, it’s a well-delivered bloody movie that some people might not even be able to watch.

It’s centred on a hardworking dad with a boring pool-cleaning job–which he is just using as a cover-up for his actual job: hunting and killing vampires.

It was released on the 12th of August 2022.

6. The Lost City

The lost city is a romantic-adventure movie released on the 22nd of April 2022. Loretta, who is a fictional Writer, sees her reality transform into a dreadful adventure when she finds herself abducted to a doomed island.

This Movie Gave!

5. Bullet Train

Most action movies fail woefully at delivering top-notch storylines behind the action. But this movie? It did not fail. Storytelling was at a maximum here. From the very first scene to the very last scene, everything was in tune.

The Bullet Train is an action/comedy movie that was released on the 5th of August 2022. Brad Pitt who stars as Ladybug is an unlucky assassin who just wishes to carry out his assignments peacefully after one too many gigs have gone off the rail.

As fate would have it, he collides with lethal adversaries from around the globe who are all on the same mission but with different objectives on a Bullet train.

4. Uncharted

Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) recruits Nathan (Tom Holland) to help him find a lost treasure but they face competition from Moncada (Antonio Banderas) who believes the treasure is his.

It’s an action/adventure movie released on the 17th of February 2022.

3. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Of course, Marvel’s movie makes it to the top 3. This action/adventure movie sees Doctor Strange team up with a mysterious teenage girl from his dreams who can travel across multiverses. Together, they battle multiple threats, including other universe versions of himself that threaten to wipe out millions across the multiverse.

There was a big controversy for viewers when they watched and saw that most of the movie was based on Wanda Maximoff. In fact, if you Google this movie, you’ll see Wanda as the first Cast in a movie that’s supposed to be starred by Strange himself. Well, that’s Marvel’s for you, their ability to mix up these things and still deliver is what has given them the longevity they enjoy now.

The release date was 6th May 2022.

1.  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever & The Woman King

Yes, you read that right. We have a tie! At number 1, we have both Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Woman King. It was difficult to pick one as second because they’re both top-notch and coincidentally, they’re both African-themed.

We’ll talk about The Woman King first since it was released before Black Panther.

The Woman King

Released 4th October 2022, Gen. Nanisca (Viola Davis), fiercely and skillfully leads an all-female warrior group that protects the African Kingdom of Dahomey. It is unlike anything the world had ever witnessed. The next generation of warriors is recruited to join in a fight against a foreign enemy determined to destroy their way of life.

This Movie took everyone by storm, as the hype around it wasn’t even loud. The greatness of this movie spoke for itself and almost everyone who watched it couldn’t resist talking about it.

One thing most viewers found particularly striking is how Thuso Mbedu, who played 19-year-old Nawi, is actually 31 in real life. Izogie (Lashana Lynch) was the fans’ favourite and John Boyega who acted as King Ghezo mesmerized us with brilliant acting.

The Woman King was a very thorough movie.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Following the death of Chadwick Boseman in real life, Marvel’s had to improvise in this sequel to the first Black Panther movie where Boseman was the star cast.

We won’t be dwelling much on this movie as it’s too emotional to talk about, but we have a review of it.

Well, that’s it for our Top 10 movies of 2022. We do have some honourable mentions though. Ambulance, Beast, The Batman, The 355, The In-Between & Top Gun Maverick were exceptional movies from 2022.

P.S. We Believe that the movie, Avatar: Way Of The Water would have made this list, but at the time of writing, it’s yet to be released.
