All you need to know about the Emirates airline suspension

The aviation sector has recently joined one of the many sectors of the Nigerian economy that are belly up. More than a couple giant airline operatives are on the verge of pulling out of Nigeria.

Here is the full gist:

Emirates Airline Suspension

Recently, in fact, on the 18th of August to be precise, Emirates Airlines declared through its PR manager, Rula Taldros, that it would be suspending flights to and from Nigeria as from September 1st, 2022.

Why? The airlines complained that they find it difficult to repatriate funds from Nigeria.

So before we send them back to their village (because apparently their funds trapped in Nigeria are about 85 million dollars) as we can’t seem to handle our forex issues, they declared that it may be time to hang their boots.

Kingsley Nwokeoma’s  Response

First of all, Kingsley Nwokeoma is the president of the Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria. In response to the buzz from the Emirate saga, he said with no joy whatsoever that we have not seen anything.

According to him, the 85 million dollars that Emirates complained about is only a fraction of the money trapped in Nigeria and the shege has just begun.

British Airways’ Suspension

Just a week after Emirates’ announcement, British Airways too declared that they were closing inventory with Nigeria, after 85 years of being an icon in the Nigerian airline sector.

They also stated that they will totally shut down if the government does not pay their trapped funds by December. They promised to keep operating flights in and out of Nigeria till then.

What can we say? Nice of them to not mud us without warning????.

Who Should We Hold?

In matters of airlines and airways, the first person your mind goes to is the Minister of Aviation who in Nigeria’s case, is Mr. Hadi Sirika.

However, when some sources reached out to his special assistant, they were told that ” the ministry of Aviation has no role to play in the airline’s trapped funds in the country”

Apparently, it is the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank Of Nigeria that needs to sort them out.

What This Means

If a solution is not found, before you travel out of the country you may first need to travel to Togo, Ghana, etc.

The foreclosure of these companies means loss of jobs, poverty, and hunger????.

Air Nigeria

This is the airline that may be taking the place of the British Airways and Emirates even though it is still not up and running ????.

Vote wisely.
