The dresscode said Afro Warrior not Afro Ojuju!

The latest movie on the block now is Woman King, and it is a big deal for many reasons, one of which is its historical trope, and then the fact that it is studded with stars like  Viola Davis(How To Get Away With Murder), Angelique Kidjo, Thuso Mbedu, Laschana Lynch, Jimmy Odukoya, Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After We Fell), John Boyega, and many more.

Its Lagos premiere happened over the weekend with the theme: Afro Warrior. As expected, there were different interpretations from the celebs in attendance.

From the guy who wore a two-piece suit [and got zero from the tribe] to the ones who slayed as the theme requested, here is how we rated the attendees of the Lagos Woman King Premiere.

1. Idia Aisien – 7/10

See, part of the boats you should rock with caution in fashion is your choice of material. Not her choosing Akpoche(velvet) that doubles in size every five minutes.

Thank God for the existence of charisma because where would this Superman-ish outfit have taken us?

2. BamBam – 4/10

Nope. Nope. Nope. The draped gown feat palazzo did not cut it at all. Then that neckpiece on that neckline just gave the outfit a kiss of death. Rated 4/10.

3. Iyabo Ojo – 10/10

Let me just say this upfront, she gets a ten. Why? She totally understood the assignment and nailed it.

From the calvary entrance, gold plated breast armor, golden neckpiece, golden finger clips, and make-up, to her hair ( guess I just listed everything she had on), it was a smash.

4. Toyin Lawani – 8/10

We can only ignore the matter of Toyin’s wizardry or “creativity” for so long. How ever did she come up with using chicken bones(drumsticks) as a crown?

Then, her outfit too? A totally genius mix of colors! See, Toyin Lawani will forever be whoever she says she is. It’s a solid nine from the tribe.

5. Leo Dasilva – 0/10

He was better off not submitting the assignment at all. He wore a suit and tie to an Afrocentric-themed party, guys.

We have no words. It’s a zero. Snore!

6. Diana Edobor (BBN) – 4/10

That gown is better suited for an Owambe and the headgear was just too elaborate, giving Queen Dowager vibes. We can’t go beyond 4/10.

7. Uti Nwachukwu – 9/10

Well, compared to his ensemble for Rita Dominic’s wedding,  this one was a total facelift.

He really tried, I wouldn’t skip a beat if he won the best-dressed male. Really. 8/10 , courtesy of the tribe.

8. Saga – 6/10

All efforts put into serving abs are duly appreciated but it’s a no from us.

Prince Saga, however, gets 5 extra points on the body arts. 5/10.

9. Modella BBN – 3/10

That leopard print middle piece and the row of buttons were unnecessary-just wasted the little goth that came with the makeup. 3/10, please.

10. Lily Afe – 4/10

All of the accessories were great, especially those brown beads. However, however, that kente in white was not giving an Afro queen that plans to go to war at all.

Maybe a spoiled princess? Or a glorified figurehead?
