Corp members will now need to verify their fitness!
The National Youth Service Corps is a mandatory one-year service programme for all tertiary institution first-degree graduates. All those who have gone through the programme before can attest to how rigorous the preparation process can be.
The new gist is that NYSC has decided to add to the rigorous process by ensuring that prospective corps members will henceforth present a fitness certificate from recognized public health facilities at orientation camps across the country. The certificate will be required for registration when the prospective corps members arrive at the orientation camp and they have said that the new policy will start with the 2022 Batch “C” orientation set.
According to NYSC, the new fitness certificate will ensure that the health status of every corps member is known and those that lie about their health status for various reasons will be unable to do so. So those of you that will say you have fake asthma to get favourable placements, that might not be a thing again, unfortunately.
Another reason for the fitness certificate according to the NYSC is because of some of the rigorous and demanding activities and regimented nature of the orientation camps and camp officials must be able to identify those who are not too fit for the demanding nature of the orientation camp.
