The first on-campus auto assembly plant in Africa!

Isn’t it nice to come across inspiring news amid all the disheartening things going on in the country? This one is a very big deal and could pave the way for many of its kind in the nearest future.

Nord is a Nigerian automobile company headquartered in Lagos with all their automobiles made in Nigeria. They have been around for a while now and have a vast range of automobiles ranging from normal sedans to SUVs. In August 2022, Nord signed an MOU (Memorandum of understanding) with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) that they would build an automobile manufacturing and assembling hub within the school’s premises.

After the MOU in August, the development of the hub started the following month and voila, in November the plant is ready and set for launch. This whole initiative is a big deal because it is the first time (in Africa) that an automobile manufacturing company will build an auto assembly plant on a university campus. Secondly, it is going to provide real-time hands-on experience for UNILAG students who have an interest in the automobile industry.

The Automotive complex will house a research and development centre, assembly plant, Showroom, after-sales workshop, and a complete auto business solution centre. This is a big deal for UNILAG students. We hope that this initiative will be a successful one and pave the way for more automobile companies to replicate hubs like this in various universities across the federation.
