Is family really everything?

Not everyone is lucky to have a family that supports them or has their backs through the ups and downs of life. If you do; guard them with your heart because people are really going through the wringer with entitled family members.

Here are three people who have been on the tail end of the Emi lokan treatment (family edition) and let’s just say the injustice of it all is about to make you really mad.

Bernard*, 35

I put my siblings in charge of supervising the construction of my first house while I was abroad. This house was very important to me because it was my first house. Plus, it was the one big thing I was doing for myself since I’d japa’d a decade before. Prior to that time, every penny I made had always gone into their schooling.

For me, the plan was to all grow together. But apparently, I was the only one on that bandwagon because why else would they decide without my consent to move into my house?

To make matters worse, when I confronted them, they called me selfish and said they couldn’t believe I was getting worked up over “just a house”.

Oh! Wow! I travelled down a few months later–with soldiers in tow. I dusted them out of my house like the leeches they had proved to be and stopped taking their calls.

I believe I have handed them the legacy of education, they should go do whatever they want with it.

Dennis*, 35

When I got my dad a car, my stepmom got mad because I didn’t get her a car too. As if that wasn’t enough, she wasn’t having the fact that my dad wouldn’t allow her to swap her old car (the one she always threw in his face) with his new one.

Can you imagine? I’m not even going to start on how this Jezebel maltreated me my whole life but that entitlement was definitely on the max!

Raising hell for a gift a child (that you never treated like yours) got for their dad, is that not ment?

Omo, I changed it for her o. No time!

Jackie*, 24

I’m getting this vibe from an aunt who has managed to convince herself that I am comfortable with her childlessness. According to her, if I wasn’t, I would have helped her raise 2 million Naira for her IVF in a window of two months.

I’m her easiest target because apparently finishing from school means cash rolls in every second. At this point, I am conflicted on whether to call her unreasonable or delusional because she knows the only income I earn is this 33k allawee.

When I tried explaining to her, she pulled the victim card–I don’t know how these people think mehn.
