A goal-ful week!

There was another round of interesting football matches during the week; a couple of surprising results and a ton of goals. The World cup is just around the corner and as a result there is fixture congestion. There’s a high possibility of us seeing more midweek league fixtures.

In the Premier League, Chelsea was defeated by Southampton 2 goals to 1. Not the best of times for the London club as they have now lost 2 Premier League games in their first five.

Champions Manchester City continued their good form as they mauled new boys Nottingham Forest by 6 goals to nil. Erling Haaland got another hat-trick for the Manchester side and he now has 9 league goals in his first 5 games. Perhaps the English league is now a farmer’s league.

League leaders Arsenal continue their 100 percent start to the season as they grabbed another vital win against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa side. The London derby between Tottenham and Westham ended in a 1-1 draw while Liverpool grabbed a late win and defeating Newcastle in what was a tightly contested game.

Manchester United secured another important victory against Leicester City and they have now won 3 co consecutive Premier League games. United are now up to 5th on the PL table which is unbelievable considering where they were after their first two games. 

In Serie A, champions AC Milan could only manage a goalless draw against Sassuolo. Inter Milan defeated new boys Cremonese by 3 goals to 1. Nico Barella scored one crazy goal in that game. Jose Mourinho’s A.S Roma also got a 3-nil victory against new boys Monza thanks to goals from Paulo Dybala and Roger Ibanez.

Napoli could only manage a 1-1 draw with Lecce while Juventus cruised to a 2-nil victory against Spezia. Atalanta got a 3-1 victory over Torino which catapulted them to the top of the table with Mourinho’s Roma firmly in second place. 

In the Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain got a 3-nil victory over Toulouse, and Troyes stunned Monaco 4 goals to 2. Lyon and Marseille both got victories in their respective games. Lens continued their fairytale start to the season with another huge victory against Lorient and remain second on the league table.
