On March 28th, 2022, the AK9 train headed to Kaduna from Abuja was attacked in Katari, Kaduna State Nigeria. The train was reported to have been bombed twice before these bandits opened firearms.
About 362 passengers were on board, with 186 found safe, 150 unaccounted for initially while 26 passengers were declared missing.
8 people were killed, including Amin Mahmoud, Chinelo Megafu (the first person to raise alarm on Twitter), Tibile Mosugu, and Barr. Musa Lawal-Ozigi.
NRC, Open and Close
Following the unfortunate incident, the Nigerian Railway Corporation was shut down the following day of the incident, March 29, 2022, until FG directed that it resume operations on May 23rd.
Mr. Yakub Mahmood, Deputy Director of Public Relations at NRC promised that additional security measures have been put in place.
He stressed the importance of getting NIN and purchasing tickets from the proper channels.
The Free Givers
Kudos to Mr. Emilokan, he donated 50 million Naira to the Kaduna State Government regarding the train attack in Kaduna.
He saw the bleedings, this time, and is convinced that the country has to fight against terrorism.
His host, Dr. El-Rufai, stated that Nigeria’s predicament required them to pick the right leader come 2023.
Also worthy of kudos is the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, led by the former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Fayemi. They donated 50 million Naira to the Kaduna State Government for distribution to the families of the victims.
A lot of benevolence there.
The Protest
Followed by a disheartening video clip that surfaced online, parents and relatives of the victims led a peaceful protest requesting that their children be rescued from the kidnappers.
Response To The Protest
The parents of the victims camped at the entrance of the Federal Ministry of Transportation headquarters, where they were being addressed by the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Mu’Azu Sambo.
In his words “The government has not been sleeping from the inquiries I have made. There are some things you do not say in public, but I want you to give me time”
Toorh!
The families were asked to drop their details as the government will not “sleep” until every person in captivity regains freedom.
The Victim Releases
There used to be 62 hostages but as of now, they have been reduced to 40.
However, there is talk that some of the victims were only released after they were made to pay the ransom.
Our Efficient Security System
Probably borrowing a leaf from the countries that do not negotiate with terrorists, the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said security forces are not helpless in combating the issue of insecurity and will not resort to paying ransoms.
Efforts were said to be in place to boost the morale of security agencies and provide them with everything they need.
Where is Our President?
In Liberia. To give them lectures on how to keep their country safe.
Seeing as we are the best in security, it is only befitting that we share our old lecture notes with other countries.
Liberia, in preparation for its 175th Independence birthday, invited Mr. President to be a special speaker.
Buhari’s visit, as stressed by Mr. Garba Shehu once again, is because of how important Liberia’s “peace and Security“ is to President Buhari.
