The World Cup is upon us!

The World Cup is a few days away and that means that major European Leagues will have to suspend their league games for a couple of weeks. For most European clubs, this World Cup break couldn’t have come any faster as their overall team performance has been nothing to write home about. Some other clubs are gutted by the break because they are having a roller-coaster season and this break could take all that momentum away.

In the Premier League, Arsenal go into the break top of the table and 5 points clear of rivals Manchester City–after they defeated Wolves 2 goals to nil. Both goals were scored by captain Martin Odegaard. Manchester City lost to Brentford 2 goals to 1 in what was an unprecedented game. Brentford got the winning goal in the last minute of the game.

Liverpool returned to their winning ways defeating Southampton by 3 goals to 1. Aston Villa and new manager Unai Emery got their second win in 2 league games after they defeated Brighton by 2 goals to 1. Tottenham and Leeds played out a seven-goal thriller that eventually ended 4-3 in favour of Tottenham. Chelsea’s season moved from bad to worse as they lost to a resolute Newcastle side 1-nil. Newcastle are now third on the Premier League table after that grand victory.

Manchester United continue to keep pace with the top four as they grabbed all three points against London club Fulham. The winning goal in that game was scored by young player Alejandro Garnacho. It is his first Premier League goal for Manchester United.

The next Premier League is weeks from now after the World Cup in December.

In Serie A, Vicor Osimhen scored again for Napoli as they defeated Udinese 3-2. It is Osimhen’s 9th league goal of the season in just 11 games. Napoli remains top of the table till the new year. They are still unbeaten in the league this season. Inter Milan defeated Atalanta 3 goals to 2 also in a very frenetic game. Nigerian Ademola Lookman scored for Atalanta in that game.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma played a 1-1 draw with Torino while Juventus mauled Lazio 3 goals to nil. Ac Milan defeated Fiorentina 2 goals to 1 and retain second place on the table just behind Napoli.

The next Serie game will be in January 2023 after the World cup.

In Bundesliga, Bayern Munich are back to their best as they defeated Schalke by 2 goals to nil and maintained the top spot on the league table. Borrusia Dortmund’s woes continue as they lost scandalously to Borussia Monchengladbach 4 goals to 2.

Bayer Leverkusen continue to pick up the pace with new manager Xabi Alonso as they defeated VfB Stuttgart by 2 goals to nil. Union Berlin’s woes continue as Freiburg defeated them 4 goals to 1. RB Leipzig continued their good run of form as they defeated Werder Bremen by 2 goals to 1.

Bayern are top of the league, Freiburg second, RB Leipzig third, and Frankfurt are fourth on the log. The next Bundesliga game is in January 2023 after the World cup.

In Ligue 1, PSG defeated Auxerre by 5 goals to nil to retain the top spot till December. Lens also defeated Clemont Foot by 2 goals to 1 to retain the second spot just 5 points away from PSG. The next Ligue 1 game will be in December after the World Cup. There were no La Liga games this weekend.

The next stop for most players now is the World Cup which starts on the 20th of November and it promises to be exciting.
