Nigerians are rightfully outraged by the confirmation.

With  the current state of things in the country, the last thing any Nigerian would expect to hear is news of government spending large sums of money on frivolous things that can not help the current state of the country or Nigerians.

A few days ago, an investigative Journalist revealed on social media that he acquired a document from the budget office in Nigeria that shows that the Federal government of Nigeria with the approval of the president approved funds to the tune of 1 billion Naira for the purchase of SUV vehicles to neighboring country Niger Republic. He went further to attach a copy of the document to the post on social media and Nigerians flooded the post with various comments mostly of outrage at the waste of funds.

The minister of finance, budget, and national planning Mrs. Zainab Ahmed has since come out to confirm the veracity of the documents and in her defense of the federal government and the president, she stated that it is not the first time funds like that have been approved to support neighboring countries. She went further to state that the Nigerian president took the decision in the best interest of the country and its border security.

Nigerians however are not buying the explanations as they feel like the gesture is very ill-timed and it shows that the government has no interest in the affairs of its own citizens. The country is going through serious security issues and also students have been home for almost 6 months now because of the ASUU strike. Nigerians feel like the government should be channeling those funds to better use in Nigeria.
