Cristiano Ronaldo x Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan had an uncensored interview with football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 90-minute interview was split into two; 45mins each (the pun intent though). Here we’ll be walking you through the highlights of the first segment:

The first striking statement Ronaldo made was that when it came to facilities, there was no development at Manchester United. According to him the gym, the kitchen and the jacuzzi were the same way they were when he left the club and upon his return years later.

He mentioned that while he was with Madrid and Juventus, there was a steady upgrade and improvement in their tech and facilities.

As the interview progressed, they spoke about Ole’s sack and replacement. He explained that Ragnick–who replaced Ole–was just a sports director that the board brought to manage a club as big as United; adding that, before the board’s decision, he had never even heard of Ragnick before.

When asked what he thought about the young players and their mindsets, he noted that most of them do not care, and he doesn’t blame them because they live in another era and have had life easy. He added that with their “I don’t care” attitude, a lot of them won’t last long in the game. However, he did Praise Diego Dalot and Lisandro Martinez.

The discussion took a switch when he was asked about the death of his Son, Angel. Ronaldo mentioned that had been the toughest period of his life since his dad passed. Morgan opined that usually, such trauma makes or breaks a family, but in Ronaldo’s case, it strengthened his bond with his family. He explained that at first, he didn’t tell his older children but eventually told them that Angel had gone to heaven.

Ronaldo appreciated the love and support from the English fans when he was going through that rough patch, highlighting how Liverpool fans sang the You’ll never walk alone anthem in the 7th minute, and Arsenal fans too. (Ronaldo got a condolence letter from the Queen’s family.)

According to him, his partner, Georgina supported him a lot and encouraged him to go back to the pitch to do what he loved doing. When asked if he had any thoughts about marriage, Ronaldo said no. Not now at least but possibly in the future.

Morgan then talked about how influential Ronaldo was, about his almost half a billion followers on Instagram and even made a joke about how Ronaldo was bigger than all the Kardashians put together.

That then led to them talking about Rooney and Neville’s criticisms of him. Ronaldo said he figured it was jealousy and went on to take a big dig at Rooney, saying that part of Rooney’s pain was that he, Ronaldo, is better looking than Rooney. Ronaldo made it clear that the two and the likes of them aren’t his friends, but colleagues.

At the beginning of the interview when Ronaldo said, “I don’t chase Records, the Records chase me,” we felt that. We’ll bring you more updates from the 2nd half when it drops, stay with us.
