Your skin shall skin as it should!
This might sound like a recipe for disaster because many people already have it pictured that for you to maintain your skin, you need to spend a lot of cash. It isn’t meant to be so, and you should kill that notion. Yes, throw it into the trash where it belongs!
Knowing your skin type and what doesn’t favor your skin will help you in the long run. You don’t have to be using a designer brand before you develop a skincare routine. You can get affordable items and still be able to maintain your skin just right.
We would recommend finding out your skin type first. Once you do so, you would be able choose the products that complement your skin. It is also best that you consider your daily habits as they might make or break how effective your routine will be. Not being consistent or only using the items without taking care of your surroundings might not help you.
For instance not changing your pillowcase; your pillowcase is always in contact with your face and you shouldn’t forget to change it/wash it every two weeks or less depending on how sweaty you are. Failing to do this could make a skin care routine could seem ineffective.
Creating a Routine
We’ve listed the products that are essentials and should make up your skin care routine:
1. Cleanser
The start of every routine is washing your face. By washing your face, you get remove all the dirt and pollutants that the skin accumulates throughout the day. It is necessary to include this in your regiment and to do it twice a day, in the morning and at the end of the day.
For dry skin, use a lotion cleanser type because they contain ingredients that clean out dirt and hydrate the skin. For those with sensitive skin, oil cleanser types are more suitable for their skin type. While if you have oily skin, foaming liquid cleansers are your go-to.
Micellar water is a type of cleanser that is suitable for all skin types. It removes dirt without causing dryness to the skin and it doesn’t require washing off once you use it on your face.
2. Moisturiser
A moisturizer aids the skin and helps to prevent water loss. Dry skin needs moisture to be rejuvenated, and that is what this product is for. It helps to keep moisture on the skin and making it radiant even as you age. It also helps to keep the skin soft.
Just as with cleansers, you use a type of moisturizer based on the type of skin you have. If you have oily skin, then gel moisturizers will work better for you. Key ingredients you should look for in them are glycerin, aloe vera, or honey. It helps to draw water to the skin to keep it hydrated.
For dry skin types, light lotion moisturizers are perfect as they fix the skin’s barrier and fill all cracks in the skin. They contain shea butter, lanolin, squalane or rosehip, amongst others.
For the last, we have the mature skin type, which is dehydrated and needs more moisture. They require thick balms to prevent the quick evaporation of water from the skin. The key ingredients in them are olive oil, mineral oil, and shea butter.
Note that all the first two moisturizer types are suitable for those with normal skin as well, but they are more effective for those with the mentioned skin types.
3. Toner
Often, people assume that a toner lightens the skin almost as a bleaching cream does, but that is a misconception. A toner helps to remove the lingering dirt after cleansing and to keep oily skin dry.
They also serve as a skin replenishment source, providing necessary nutrients for the face. If you have sensitive skin, looking out for toners with rose water and green tea will help you calm skin irritation and reduce inflammation.
If you’re only looking to reduce factors that can age your skin, then Vitamin E and C are the key ingredients you should check in your toner.
4. Sunscreen
This is a product that shouldn’t be toyed with, especially with inconsistencies in Nigerian weather. Many people often complain about darkened spots on their bodies caused by the sun– this can be prevented by using sunscreen. Applying sunscreen about thirty minutes before stepping out will help to block out damaging UV rays and prevent burns.
Once you know your skin type, you’ll be able to choose the ones that suit you best. For the cleanser, moisturizer, and toner, I recommend products from Simple. They are suitable for different skin types and they offer a range of variety. They are also pocket friendly and are worth checking out.
Another brand worth checking out is Nivea. They have an array of products, from their lotions to their micellar water, which is suitable for all skin types.
Getting all these products and maintaining a consistent regimen will have your skin glowing and radiant even without you turning your face to the sun for sun-kissed pictures.
