The second AWS office in Africa is here!

Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched its services in Africa as far back as 2017 when it opened an office in Johannesburg, South Africa. They have decided to set up shop in Nigeria and they’ve chosen Lagos as the starting point.

The AWS Lagos office will have AWS account managers, partner managers, solutions architects, and other roles that support Nigerian customers. The AWS office in Lagos was set up to support the growing number of customers and partners in Nigeria. AWS already supports a couple of Nigerian startups like Yellow card, Bankly, and BFREE.

They are hoping that more organizations and enterprises, and public sector agencies too will transition to the AWS cloud and they will be on hand to offer any type of support to ease the transition.

AWS will also support new and existing customers that want to use their products and services to lower their IT costs by leveraging the cloud technology they offer.

According to the minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim, the AWS programs will support the development of a robust digital economy and they are looking forward to the partnership because it will also speed up the implementation of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS).

AWS currently has 26 regions in operation and 8 under development in the world. A lot of cloud computing services have been opened in various locations in Africa like the Huawei data centres in South Africa, the Microsoft Azure Data Centre in Johannesburg, and the Google Cloud region also in South Africa.

More African companies both existing and new will start tethering toward cloud computing and a good number of them will need education and orientation on how cloud computing works to make the transition seamless.
