2022 has been a fashion rollercoaster. Many fashion items existed for the sole purpose of taking your money away. From bone straight to the staple fur bucket hats, Pateks, and Bridgerton-inspired outfits, to all the resurrected Y2K items.
As is our custom every year, we looked through our buys and compared them with other members of the SabiTribe team to make our best picks.
Take a walk down memory lane with us as we list all the worthwhile fashion items we bought in 2022 and feel free to update your shopping list with the ones you forgot to pick up.
1. Bottega Boots
Bottega boots taught us that only a few things can be more appealing than leather on your legs. Of our 2022 shoe purchases, these Bottega take the cake. No cap.
2. Fur Bucket Hats
Bottega boots then fur bucket hats, we promise we were not reading your mind–just a stylish Tribe and its fashionista readers thinking alike. So, yeah, fur hats.
It makes us give ourselves mental high fives every time we remember that we own something that is bae in both harmattan and sunny season.
3. Vans Sneakers
Vans have been around for a while, but 2022 was definitely its year of the blow. Suitable for baddies, and better for those who take “smart casual” to heart, Vans sneakers became essential in no time.
4. Biker Shorts
Despite being a controversial fashion item, biker shorts get a nod from the Tribe because of their flexibility. Like, one need not worry about shirt size or length because whether oversized, snug or cropped, it’s going.
5. Boubous
A one-and-doner here (doesn’t need to be paired with any other cloth), long flowing Boubous dashed us comfort and slay in volumes.
Not having a Boubou on your hanger right now should be a crime. Honestly.
6. Crocs
We know better than to exclude your favourite. It’s ours too. Heaven knows we needed a break from those ankle-twisting shoes.
Crocs are crocs; pretty and cosy. If you don’t have a pair yet, we are under the obligation to point you to the right place. Run to Crocs Nigeria right now, and thank us later.
7. Belly Chains
Another fashion item that took our money away in 2022 was belly chains. Sigh.
Belly chains dealt with our sensibilities and drowned all of our buyer’s remorse in its river of bling bling.
8. Silk Pieces
We also did a lot of silk skirts and gowns in 2022. Can you blame us? Silk seems to be synonymous with the good life and who says no to that?
Apart from being a comfy fashion statement, silk pieces also had an air of minimalism around them (P.S. Think silver accessories).
10. Corsets
In 2022, we wore lingerie as normal clothes and enjoyed every minute of it–courtesy of Madam Delacroix (Bridgerton).
In fact, the corsets (especially the puff-sleeved ones) had the highest rewear value for us at the Tribe.
11. Platform Shoes
Platform shoes had us giving our micro heels an indefinite break–that’s how much it passed the slay and rewear vibe check.
Your rack is incomplete without at least a pair of platforms especially when you are the type to party.
12. Low-Rise Jeans
What baddie does not own low-rise jeans, anyway? Definitely not us.
We explored both low-rise jeans in their ripped and unripped forms. We did the tank top and matching underwear thingy with our waist accessories shining in their respective stations and it was worth it.
