Who says you can’t wax at home?
Waxing is great. Doing it at home is even better–you get to have smooth skin, worry less about shaving every market day and do all of that without showing your bum (or other body parts) to a stranger.
Now, as you must agree, having a few extra tricks in the hat never hurt anyone. So regardless of whether you can wax with your eyes closed or you are new to the waxing affair; here are eight tips that will help you get your desired results without hurting yourself:
1. Always Examine Hair Length
When it comes to waxing, the length of the hair has to be just right, otherwise, pulling out the wax may become an uphill task.
The ideal hair length for waxing is between a quarter of an inch to three-quarters of an inch. Anything longer would require a trim and anything shorter should be allowed to grow out before waxing.
2. Exfoliate, But Not Too Much
The role of exfoliation here is to lend your waxing a better finish with its dead-follicle-removing superpowers. However, because exfoliation can be a bit hard on the skin, we suggest you do it mildly with a rough washcloth maybe?
Bottom line: You can’t not exfoliate. However, you can’t exfoliate too much.
3. Don’t Moisturize On Wax Day
With waxing, you have to moisturize ahead, not on the D-day lest all the hair you want to wax off becomes slippery and the wax turns nyama nyama.
After waxing, however, you can soak yourself in as much moisturizer as you want.
4. Regulate Wax Temperature
Most waxing fails arise from the failure to do this. The normal temperature range for wax is 37-45 degrees Celsius, please stick to it.
We hope you never find out what happens when you go outside that range. May we not be disgraced.
5. Don’t Wax During Your Period.
If you bleed monthly, you already know where I’m going with this. Menstruation only makes waxing more painful than necessary. Not to mention that blood and wax aren’t exactly a good spectacle.
So waxing during your period? Swerve!
6. Use Wax Moderately
If you lay the wax on too thick, removing it is going to be an uphill task.
Two to three layers are okay and for easy pulling out (sanitize your mind), you can make the wax thinner at the edges.
7. Peel It Off Swiftly
Once the wax hardens, pull it out swiftly and chest the pain at once. Don’t do sme sme, it will only prolong the brief pain of ripping the wax and your hair out.
8. Check Your Skin
No matter where you’re waxing, check and be sure there are no wounds before you launch into waxing.
If you don’t and wax such areas, the wounds will stretch and cause you great pain.
