A recap from the Nations League and other games

Most football fans dread the international break because it automatically means that football matches across the world will be halted for at least a week. This international break was the last before the World Cup that starts in November. While a couple of countries played important friendlies to prepare for the competition, the European teams had to continue their Nations League competition.

The Nations League is a competition that has three groups (A, B, and C) and within those groups, there are 4 other groups with 4 teams each. In group A, after all rounds of matches, the 4 teams topping their groups will qualify for the semi-finals of the Nations League. The 4 teams bottom of their group after the round of matches will be relegated to Group b. The four teams on top of their group in group B after all rounds of matches will be promoted to group A.

In this summer’s edition of the competition, Spain, Netherlands, Croatia, and Italy have all qualified for the semi-final of the Nation’s league. England, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Wales have all been relegated to Group B. France was the last winner of the Nations League.

In the other friendlies across the world, Brazil was in action against two African teams and they obliterated both teams. They defeated Ghana by 3 goals to nil and they also defeated Tunisia by 5 goals to 1. Tunisia got a red card in that game and Tottenham striker Richarlison scored a brace against Ghana and Tunisia.

Nigeria squared up against Algeria and they lost by 2 goals to 1 in a game that was filled with questionable refereeing decisions. Lorient striker Terem Moffi scored for the Super Eagles in that game.

Cameroon has a cause to be worried as they lost both of their warm-up games to Uzbekistan and South Korea respectively. They lost 1-nil to South Korea and 2-nil to Uzbekistan. Egypt won their warm-up games against Niger and Liberia 3 goals to nil respectively. Senegal won one of their warm-up games against Bolivia by 2 goals to nil and drew the other game 1-1 to Iran.

The Super Eagles still have a game with the Portuguese national side later this year before the World cup starts.
