Because the London Bridge is down

Unless one is living in a cage, it is no longer news that the Queen of the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II, is no more. A statement was released by the Royal family to confirm the news of her demise which automatically triggered something called “Operation London Bridge”.

Operation London Bridge is the plan put in place for the funeral of the Queen when her demise is confirmed. Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning Monarch in British history as she was on the throne for 70 years. To put that into perspective, she was alive and watched all the World cup tournaments there ever were. She died at the age of 96.

In her absence, a lot of things will change. Here are four of those things:

1. A New King

Yes, you read that right. The next Monarch will be a King! According to the traditions of the Royal house, the first offspring of the previous monarch will ascend the throne in the scenario of the monarch’s demise just like this one. The new King of the United Kingdom will be Queen Elizabeth’s first son, Charles.

He is currently 73 years old. He and his family will inherit the Queen’s estimated 500 million dollars fortune. Imagine getting a new job at 73 worth that much money, crazy right?

2. Currency Change

The Queen’s portrait is the picture on the British currency; now that she is no more, that will effectively be changed. New currency with the portrait of the new King Charles will be printed and circulated immediately. While all the currency with the portrait of the queen will slowly be faded out of use.

Don’t be surprised if their currency begins to look different in the coming months. The same will happen for stamps, passports, and police and military uniforms.

3. A New Anthem

The title of the national anthem will be changed also from “God save the Queen” to “God save the King”. For every part of the anthem that used to read ‘Queen’ will automatically be changed to King. The anthem has already been changed on the website of the royal family.

This one is a big change though, imagine changing the lyrics of the Nigerian anthem anytime a president leaves office. Anyway, we can’t relate because we don’t run a Monarchical system of government here.

4. The BBC

Until after the funeral, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will not broadcast any sort of comedy shows to show respect to the Queen, Their presenters and newscasters will wear black suits while on air and the official BBC red branding will automatically change to black. Other top U.K businesses changed their branding to black also.

The BBC will broadcast stories about her life and times till the funeral is over.
