All you need to know about MTN’s 5G network!

To the relief of many Nigerians, 5G network is now available in Nigeria and this is thanks to MTN. They intend to launch the service in a couple of Nigerian states like Lagos, Abuja, and Kano and in some major cities like Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Owerri, and Maiduguri.

MTN automatically becomes the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to launch the 5G network. As far back as 2019, MTN had already been running successful 5G spectrum tests with the support of some phone manufacturers.

However, only a couple of specified 5G enabled phones will have access to the 5G network for now. What this means is that it is entirely possible to have a 5G enabled phone and still not have access to MTN’s 5G network. For some phones, the users have to wait for the producers to deliver the updates that will give them access to the network. iPhone users might have to wait till October before they get the update.

According to popular Nigerian Youtuber Fisayo Fosudo in an Instagram video, the 5G network is way faster than the 4G network. MTN also mentioned that there will be some special 5G plans with bonuses that will be introduced soon enough.

The 5G modem is also available for pre-order on MTN’s website as of now and it costs 50 thousand naira. You can connect up to 32 devices with the modem which is pretty cool. Those who pre-order the modem will get it at a later date in September.

For pre-existing MTN users that already have a 4G sim, the good news is that you don’t need to upgrade your sim to a 5G sim you just need to wait for the update from your phone manufacturer which is rolling out in batches.
