The wordless King of TikTok!

Apparently, Nigerians were not the only ones changed by the pandemic. Khaby Lame, a Senegalese-born TikToker was forced to  become an overnight content creator after losing his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fast foward to a couple of years later and he is not only a international TikTok sensation but also the most followed celebrity on TikTok.

Becoming Khaby Lame

He started his content creation journey by stitching videos and jumping on duets where he made all the over complicated TikTok hacks look very simple without saying a word.

In August 2021, Khaby appeared as a co-star for Juventus F.C.’s announcement of Manuel Locatelli.  In September 2021, he attended the Venice Film Festival as a special guest for the first screening of French film Lost Illusions by Xavier Giannoli. In January 2022, Lame signed a multi-year partnership with Hugo Boss and was featured in the #BeYourOwnBoss campaign.

His signature videos recently landed him an endorsement with the popular crypto company Binance, which happens to be the world’s leading blockchain and digital exchange. They believe that Khaby’s way of uncomplicating things makes him fit to be an ambassador for the complex blockchain system–they’re probably right.

Khaby Versus African Elders

We were all taught that a closed mouth is a closed destiny. Well, Khaby’s destiny begs to differ because it brought him 143.6 million followers on TikTok- without talking🙂.

While we will not disrespect our elders by saying they are wrong, we would like to state that Khaby actually won this round.

Khaby’s Consistency

The 22 year old Italian-based celebrity Khaby Lame (full name; Khabane Lame) was a machine operator at CNC, Turin, until he got laid off in March 2020.

He turned to TikTok, where he posted videos of him dancing or playing video games and had just 1000 followers when his current manager found him.

A Reminder To Keep Hustling

If you were confused by the Italian and Senegalese mentions in the previous paragraphs–I’m about to make things clear. Khaby was born in Senegal but grew up and studied in Italy. His early TikTok videos were recorded in Italian and had Italian subtitles.

On 24th of June 2022, Carlo Sibilia, the Italian Undersecretary for the Ministry of Interior, announced that Khaby would be granted citizenship–talk about the perks of being successful.
