Odogwu, you bad!

Burna boy whose real name is Damini Ogulu, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record  producer who has made more than a name for himself in the industry. With albums L.I.FE, Outside, Twice as tall, African Giant, and now, Love, Damini; Burna boy continues to prove that he is not just in the industry to play.

While he is not the most private person, we can agree that Burna is somewhat private. So here’s a sneak peak of Burna Boy as a son, brother, lover and grandson; not as the African Giant we see on screen.

As  A Son

Burna Boy was born to Samuel and Bose Ogulu on the 2nd of July, 1991 and judging from his different style of music and hard flows, you will agree with me that Odogwu must have a coconut head. Choosing a career in music is the nightmare of many Nigerian parents. Sadly Burna Boy cannot relate because his mother is his manager. The irony!

Burna and his mom appear to have a good relationship. During the 2019 BET Awards, after Burna Boy was announced the winner of the Best International Act category, she accepted the award on his behalf and delivered an unforgettable speech. Talk about Mother-Son goals!

On his 31st birthday, she pleaded for him to tone down the “craziness” but then, does the apple fall far from the tree🙃? Burna Boy’s mom, Bose Ogulu, exudes evergreen vibes–and we absolutely love her for it.

As A Grandson

Burna Boy’s maternal grandpa, Benson Idonije, used to manage the Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. What a coincidence, right *wink wink*? Burna’s grandpa had apparently spoken the Grammys into existence for Burna in 2019, and that is when it was revealed that he listens and vets Burna Boy’s songs before they are released.

You can imagine how high his shoulder pads were when his grandson brought home the Grammys a few years later😌.

In February, 2022, Burna gifted his grandma a Louis Vuitton bag worth $6000. Among the praises she reigned on him was, “Odogwu, you bad!”. A line from one of his songs–Yababuluku.

Grandma wey sabi.

As A Brother

Burna Boy has two sisters, Ronami and Nissi Ogulu, both of who are proof that excellence runs in the Ogulu family. Ronami is a stylist and manages Odogwu’s rather peculiar wardrobe, while Nissi (short for Jehovah-Nissi) is a singer, song writer, mechanical engineer, creative digital designer, animator, etc.

Recently during the MSG show, Nissi and Ronami were seen mimicking Burna’s  signature dance for the Asake Sungba Remix. The sibling love is apparent in the way they support each other’s careers.

As A Lover

Burna Boy started dating Stefflon Don in 2018 and up until 2022 when the break up news got out, they served couple goals. As a matter of fact, he called her her “wifey” one of his interviews.

While we don’t know the reasons behind their abrupt breakup, we know that Odogwu was a lover boy while it lasted. Following the release of Last Last, elite gbas gbos has been occurring with Stefflon sneak dissing him in one of her tracks too.

‘Las las. Na everybody go chop breakfast’
