A fruit drink a day keeps the doctor away!

Making fruit drinks yourself is not only cheaper but it is also a healthy habit to cultivate. We are definitely preachers of love and wellness. Being broke does not equate to unhealthy meals. And you know how that proverb goes, “One apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

These fruit drinks are great for a system detox and friends of the fit-fam. That is because they are nourishing and have little to no calories.

With these recipes, even ‘sapaverts’ can make their meal plans look fancy. What are those posh companies even packaging inside cartons anyway? Is it not the same fruits they sell in Onitsha market? 🙄

Well, let’s get into the the order of the day. Here are six healthy and cheap fruit drinks you can make at home:

1. Cucumber Water

Why drink plain water when there is cucumber water? This drink has no sugar or calories. And it is oh so refreshing! Imagine drinking a glass of chilled cucumber water after hours under the brutal Nigerian sun. If the thought of it does not renew your good spirits, a taste will!

All you need is a knife and enough skill to avoid cutting your fingers while slicing the cucumber. Throw the cucumber slices into your glass of chilled water and drink away!

2. Orange Juice

Ready to produce your homemade Pulpy orange or Chivita? Oya read on.

You can make your own fresh and sweet orange juice with either a blender or juicer. Make sure you remove all the seeds before putting in the blender so you won’t end up squeezing your face.

3. Watermelon Drink

There are two ways to make your fancy watermelon drink. One, dice the fruit inside your glass of water. The other method requires blending and then sieving out any chaff.

Whichever option you opt for, remember to remove the seeds. We wouldn’t want a watermelon plant to grow inside your stomach.

You can even make a fancy combination with ginger or orange juice.

4. Fruit Smoothies

Fruit smoothies are made from a combination of different fruits, usually frozen.  Not only are fruit smoothies so tasty, they are also far from basic. A few pictures of you drinking a smoothie with a great background or even in your gym wear can do wonders for your Instagram. Think about it.

Anyway, you can make a smoothie by combining yoghurt (or milk), honey and fruits like watermelon, strawberry, banana, mango, pineapple and many more.

5. Coconut Milk Drink

Okay, I lied. Not all the drink recipes on this list are easy 😭. Allow me to introduce you to the sweet drink that might teleport you back to the stone age.

First, you will need to break the coconut, cut out the white part (aka meat), blend and mix with water

You can also add ginger to your coconut milk drink to up the taste and aroma.

6. Lemonade

If Queen Bee could name an album after this drink, best believe it is no ordinary one. The only ingredients you need to make lemonade are your lemons and sugar. While lemons are naturally sour, this drink (when properly made) is the complete opposite. That is why a saying goes, “If life gives you lemon, make lemonade.”

To make a fantastic lemonade, juice the lemons and mix with a sugar syrup. Serve chilled or pour over ice.
