European Football Leagues Resume

The World Cup was completed a few weeks ago and some of the major European football leagues that were on break because of the tournament have resumed. 

The Premier League, La Liga, and French Ligue 1 have all resumed league football while the Italian Serie A and the German Bundesliga will continue in the second and third week of January. 

In the Premier League, Arsenal is still top of the table and since the resumption of the league, they have picked up 2 wins against West Ham United and Brighton and they managed a draw against Newcastle.

Manchester City is still second on the table with just 1 win and 1 draw since the resumption of the league. They have an outstanding game against Chelsea. Newcastle United is the surprise team of the season as they remain third on the league table despite just 1 victory in their last 3 games since the league resumed.

Manchester United is a team in form as they have won all three of their games since the league resumed. They also didn’t concede any goal in all those games and comfortably sit 4th on the table. Liverpool’s inconsistent season continues as they won 2 and lost 1 of their 3 games since the league resumed. They sit 6th on the Premier League table. 

Chelsea’s season just went from bad to worse as they have only managed to win 1 game in their last 7 premier league outings. They sit 10th on the table. 

In La Liga, All teams have only played one game since the league resumed after the World cup. Barcelona played a 1-1 draw with Espanyol, Real Madrid defeated Real Valladolid by 2 goals to nil, and Atletico Madrid defeated Elche by 2 goals to nil also. Real Sociedad also defeated Osasuna by 2 goals to nil to maintain their spot in the top four on the table. 

In Ligue 1, all clubs have played two games since the league resumed in December. PSG won one and lost the other game and they remain on top of the table but just 4 points clear of second place Lens who drew one and won the second game which was against PSG. Marseille won both of their matches since the resumption of the league and they sit third on the league table.

The Italian Serie A resumes this weekend and the German Bundesliga will return much later in January.
