Which teams are out of the World Cup?
This particular World Cup could just be one of the best we have seen because almost every team in the tournament came to battle ready. We have seen a lot of good football from teams we would have classified as underdogs.
Anyway, after the second round of matches in the group stage of the competition, some teams confirmed their qualification to the next stage while some others crashed out. Some teams also have to wait for the last game on the group stage to know their fate.
In the first group, the Netherlands played a 1-1 draw against Ecuador. In the same group, the African team Senegal defeated Qatar by 2 goals to 1. The Netherlands sits at the top of that group with 4 points, Ecuador in second place also has 4 points, and Senegal is in third place with 3 points. Qatar are officially out of the tournament after losing their first 2 games.
In the second group, Iran pulled another upset by defeating Wales 2 goals to nil. In the same group, England played a goalless draw against the USA. England sits at the top of the group with 4 points, Iran are second with 3 points, the USA are third with 2 points and Wales, fourth with 1 point.
In the third group, Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2 goals to nil with Robert Lewandoski scoring his first World Cup goal in the match. In the same group, Argentina defeated Mexico by 2 goals to nil. Lionel Messi got a goal in that game. Poland sits top of that group with 4 points, Argentina second with 3 points, Saudi Arabia third with 3 points also, and Mexico with 1 point.
In the fourth group, Australia pulled another upset as they defeated Tunisia by 1 goal to nil. France defeated Denmark by 2 goals to 1. France are through to the next round of the competition with one game to spare. France sits top of the group with 6 points, Australia second with 3 points, Denmark third with 1 point, and Tunisia fourth with 1 point also.
In the fifth group, Costa Rica pulled another upset as they defeated Japan by 1 goal to nil. Spain and Germany played a 1-1 draw in a rather competitive game. Spain sits top of that group with 4 points, Japan are second with 3 points, Costa Rica are third with 3 points also, and Germany are fourth with 1 point.
In the 6th group, Morocco pulled another upset as they defeated Belgium by 2 goals to nil. Croatia absolutely dismantled Canada by 4 goals to 1. Croatia sits at the top of the group with 4 points, Morocco are second with 4 points also, Belgium are third with 3 points, and Canada fourth without a point. Canada are the second team to exit the tournament after losing their first 2 games.
In the seventh group, Cameroon came from 2 goals down to draw 3-3 with Serbia in a rather thrilling game. Brazil on the other hand defeated Switzerland 1-nil to qualify for the next stage with 1 game to spare. Cameroon will need to defeat Brazil in the next round to qualify for the next stage.
In the last group, Ghana pulled another upset as they defeated South Korea 3 goals to 2. Portugal defeated Uruguay 2 goals to nil to qualify for the next round with one game to spare also.
