Don’t give up on goals, give up on repeating bad methods.

Welcome to Detty December ’21! Are you feeling it?

As the year ends, many of us start hearing talk of goals and resolutions; whether it is people setting them, celebrating them or you remembering the ones you made at the beginning of the year and immediately forgot.

Comrade, we get it! The reason why you never stick to any new year reso-anything is because you’ve been over-disappointed. Every January, you watch videos, read articles and set goals only to achieve 10%. But we’re not here to tell you how to set goals, we’re starting from the beginning – setting the right goals. So let’s begin.

1: Set realistic Goals!

Yes there is such a thing as wrong goals.

These are goals that set you up to fail from the beginning. Especially if you’ve been in a love-hate relationship with goals, there are some goals that you shouldn’t be setting unless you have a vision from God.

For example, the person that does not have a job but wants to buy a car or house at Banana Island. Alaye, commot from there now.

2: Your Goals Should Be The Means To An End

Most goals that are accomplished are the ones that have a bigger purpose behind them. If you don’t have a concrete reason behind your goals, you’ll easily get discouraged and the next thing you know, you’ll be typing God when on people’s page. A person that wants to buy a house so that they can have a place to live will be more motivated than another who wants to buy the same house for social pics or to shame village people.

3: Your Goals Should Be For You Not For Others

This one is similar to the last point. Set goals for your personal satisfaction not according to the expectations of others. You want to lose weight because everybody on your feed is like pankere. Ok, but who will encourage you when you’re about to collapse from 10000 steps?

The bitter truth is most people don’t care about you, they care about the trends. When trends change, guess what, your goals are meaningless. So set a goal to be fit so you don’t have diabetes at 40 instead of for 200 likes and 10 Opoorrrs!

4: Accountability

Let’s not lie to ourselves here. This is the enemy of progress f9r goals. Goals are called goals because you have not reached them yet. Why? Because it is not easy. So set up accountability structures. Whether digital or physical. If you’re saving money, let it be deducted from your account automatically or else “you’ll never have enough money” to save some. Get friends that understand the importance of your goals, can disturb your life finish and will constantly remind you of why you started when you’re about to give up.

Also, encourage your friends in their goals. As thou giveth encouragement so shall thou receiveth!

5: Limit The Number Of Goals

One thing that subconsciously scares us is the number of goals we set. Don’t be setting 15 goals. Kilode! Are you a goalkeeper ni? Oya the ones from last year, how many did you reach? Ehen. Pick only necessary ones. If you’re a beginner, a maximum of 5.

6: Goals Don’t Have To Be For The Whole Year.

Let’s face it, we procrastinate on some goals because we have too much time. Something that can take 3 months should not be extended to one year. If you can finish it in 3 months, then just do it.

7: Reward Yourself.

What is your reward? Some people are motivated by their goals because there is a higher purpose behind them. Someone learning Java so that they can get a job as a developer can be motivated by their end goal – the job. However, if your goal is a little abstract or does not have immediate rewards, create them for yourself. For every hour you exercise, one extra hour of Netflix.
