Put a picture to your new year’s resolutions!
What is a vision board you ask? Well, a vision board is a collage of images and words that represent your dreams and aspirations. Now, depending on who you ask, vision boards either work like a charm or are absolute trash.
If you pointedly ask us though, we will tell you that if you can list your goals in your Notes app or jot them in a journal and believe that by writing, you are on track; then, creating a vision board that adds visual reinforcements to your goals is not a bad idea.
That being said, here are some tips you can use whether you are a first-time vision boarder or a regular customer looking to do it better.
1. Set Your Goals
Vision boarding is much easier with set goals: you get to be laser-focused on what you want.
The good news is that most of the vision boarding apps (we will get to that in a minute) already do that for you. They divide your goals into finance, career, intellectual, physical, family, and personal segments so don’t get overwhelmed.
2. Get Inspiration Online
Don’t get stuck trying to create your vision board from scratch when you can always tap into the bottomless knowledge of the web including tips on obeying the most important rule of vision boarding [goal setting].
So websites like Canva, Vision board, Notion, Pinterest, Free Form, and Landing when you are doing a digital vision board, and magazines when you are going for physical vision boards.
3. Don’t Bite More Than You Can Chew
Now, we can all agree that most of the websites that have to do with vision boarding are glossy. Heck, even your dream of owning a red Ferrari is not a nightmare. So yeah, it is easy to get carried away. But be real with yourself. Don’t bite more than you can chew. You can always start small and update your goals gradually.
Too many goals on your vision board when you don’t have enough resources to achieve them is an RSVP to poteaux poteaux.
4. Assemble Your Vision Board With Your Friends For Accountability
It is not uncommon to find yourself tired at one point or the other on the journey of achieving your goals, but when you have accountability partners who check you, you quickly get back on track to achieving everything you set your mind to.
5. Put Your Vision Board Where You Can See It
That is the essence of vision boarding–seeing where you want to be and not merely reading it from one jotter that you only open once a month.
So if you have a physical vision board now, the best place to tack would be above your mirror (or somewhere else it can’t be missed) while a digital vision board should be set as a screensaver on your most used gadgets (phone and PC).
6. Don’t Just Write And Gaze Through
Vision boards are not magic wands. They are only there to give you a clear mental picture of your dreams and motivate you.
Put in the work to make everything balanced.
