Afrobeats meets Nollywood!
Casting directors and producers tend to cast prominent musicians in the movies for obviously different movies one of which is to majorly drag their audience to watch their films when it is out on screen, the same trend is familiar in the Nigerian film industry.
We decided to make a list of Nigerian artistes and their movie roles in the Nollywood industry in 2022.
1. Falz
Falz has been featured in over ten movies. We first saw him as Segun in Funke Akindele’s series Jenifer’s Diary, a role that fetched him his first AMVCA in 2016 (Best Actor in a Comedy Movie/Series). He played the role of Femi Beecroft in Chief Daddy 1 & 2, the second and only legitimate son of the big family struggling with his one-track and almost-dying music career.
He also plays the lead role of a police detective in “Brotherhood”, one of the biggest action blockbusters of the year.
2. Reminisce
The rapper plays the role of a villain known as Makanaki in “The Return of The King”, a sequel to the Nigerian political drama, King of Boys.
He will also be starring in “The rising City Of Dream” set to screen in the cinemas on 9th December 2022.
3. Peter Okoye (Mr. P)
The singer featured in Genevieve Nnaji’s film Lionheart where he played Arinze. in the health-themed movie “Lockdown” where he plays the role of a business investor and the CEO of Zoom Lifestyle (truly his company in actual life) who gives out 10 million naira for a game.
4. Chike
He made his acting debut in Africa Magic’s Battleground where he played Mayowa Badmus. Chike stars alongside Tobi Bakre and Adesua Etomi-Wellington in Amazon Prime’s upcoming release “Gang of Lagos”–a story of a group of friends who each have to navigate their destiny, growing up on the bustling streets and neighbourhood of Isale Eko, Lagos.
5. Brymo
The Nigerian songwriter and singer made his debut performance in a movie by playing the role of Olohun Iyo, a praise singer in “Elesin Oba”, a screen adaptation of Professor Wole Soyinka’s play, Death And The King’s Horseman.
6. IllBliss
The rapper also featured as a villain known as “Odogwu Malay” in the “Return of The King” (King of Boys 2), who betrays the trust of the character of his musical counterpart (Reminisce), dishing out an impressive performance to the viewers.
