Avoid stories that touch!
Whether you are a coconut head moving out of your parents house or ready to pack out of your old apartment, one fact remains: rent lasts a year.
Consider these factors as you are house hunting, before you sign a contract with your new landlord. After all the shakara you have made about getting your own apartment, it won’t be nice to end up with stories that touch the heart o.
Landlords can be slower than tortoises when it comes to renovation. So, don’t say you will manage a bad apartment 🌚.
1. Proximity To Noise Sources
When looking for a place to call home, stay away from vacancies in a noisy environment. Yes, I’m referring to places of worship and industries. Unless you are also a noisemaker sha or a vampire 😏.
2. Good Network
It’s another level of pain when you know you have data but your neighbourhood will not let you shine. You should not have to climb your roof or stay in the toilet for hours before you can have a secure connection.
Do well to ask your potential neighbours how good the network in their area is. Anyone that tells you GLO works well is hinting you to run.
3. Steady Electricity And Water Supply
This country is already hard enough. Do not choose an apartment that lacks good light and water.
For your own good, prioritize apartments with a well, and rich neighbors that own generators, or inverters. This wisdom I just shared with you is top secret. But what are friends for? 😌
4. Distance To Places You Frequent
Except you have a burning desire to donate to transport companies, find a place that is close to your workplace, your bae and any other places you often visit.
Ensure there are convenience stores nearby too. Same for a suya spot and pharmacy. May the Lord be with you.
5. Design and Damage History
When house hunting, be deliberate about checking for leaks, room sizes, bad plumbing and bad soak-aways nearby. Some apartments are poorly designed and make little to no room for easy movement or cooking.
Rainy season is the best time to confirm if the apartment you are eyeing has a leaky roof. Also, do a small excursion around the compound to check for bad soak-aways.
6. House rules
Ensure you get all the information on house rules before you sign away your money for a whole year. Some landlords do not allow pets and have gate-closing time.
