Which type of trader can you relate to?

Lagos is a tragic comedy hotspot. Its residents have the strangest behaviors and there is always something to make you question the sanity of fellow Lagosians as you drive or walk down the streets.

In Lagos market places, you are sure to find the most amusing and frustrating people. Read on as SabiTribe identifies some of the categories of traders in Lagos markets.

1. The Grabbers

These traders, like in a wrestling ring, are constantly grabbing everything that belongs to you – from your bag to your shirts, trousers, and even your boxers; just so that they can get your attention and eventually your money.

If you’re not careful, you might mistake them for pick-pockets.

2. The Hypemen

This set of traders will hype everything about you (no matter how terrible it is). They begin their intros by calling you “sure boy” or “fine girl”. Once they have your attention with their fake hype, they begin to exaggerate the value of their merchandise to you.

They may even go as far as telling you that their products can cure COVID-19.

3. The Prayer-Warriors

Right from the days of John the Baptist, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence” is the working scripture of this lot. The first thing they do immediately they get to the market is to call down fire, thunder, and brimstone upon all their contenders and enemies.

They spray holy water and anointing oil on every nook and cranny as if they have just seen Satan. Nobody messes with them.

4. The Educated Traders

These are the ones who have been negatively impacted by the economic downturn and have no choice but to sell merchandise at the market. At the slightest chance, they will let you know that they’re learned and rue the state of the country.

Their motto is “na condition bend crayfish”.

5. The Scammers

If you’ve never visited Computer Village Ikeja, you may not completely relate with this category of traders. They are the con artists and shady vendors who are always on the look out for unsuspecting customers that they can rip off.

They carefully study their prey before they attack and make money off of their naivety. No go loose guard!
