Anikulapo: The one who holds death in his bag!

With the recent release of some beautiful epic stories in the Nollywood space, it is a pleasure to see Africans tell their own stories to a global audience. Ageshinkole (King of Thieves) is still one of the highest grossing movies of 2022 in the Nigerian cinematic space. In the same vein, the screen adaptation of the Wole Soyinka’s play Eleshinoba (The King’s Horseman) recently premiered at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Based on the multi-slate film project with global streaming giant (Netflix), the renowned film maker, Kunle Afolayan, has taken the same route once again to tell the ancient story of  Anikulapo (the one who controls death). It promises to be Nigeria’s Game of Thrones.

1. It Is Set In The Ancient Oyo Empire

The film project is set in the 17th century Oyo Empire. The trailer and images of the film clearly reveals that the crew did a great job on the set design, makeup and costumes.

Recent works of Kunle Afolayan have shown that he pays close attention to aesthetics and this mystical folklore shouldn’t be an exception. Till then, we keep our fingers crossed.

2. It Was Shot In Kunle Afolayan’s Film and Village Resort

The film was shot at the Kunle Afolayan Production Film Village and Resort located in Igbojaiye, Komu, Itesiwaju local government, Oyo State. It is an ongoing building project.

The building project promises to be a home for the preservation of film, cultural heritage and values. Set on a 40 acres mass of land, the various infrastructures and animals in the setting qualifies it for a centre of tourist attraction when it is finally completed.

3. It Features Your Favourite Yoruba Movie Stars

5. Eyiwunmi Afolayan Cements Family Legacy

The Afolayan dynasty continues to add to their number in the Nollywood industry as the 17-year-old daughter of the film maker is also set to make her debut appearance in this highly anticipated film. Pictures reveal that she may be starring as the daughter of Kunle Afoloyan’s biological sister, Moji Afolayan.

Don’t forget that one of her siblings, Damisire Afolayan also featured in the 2017 Nigerian film “Roti”. Members of the Afolayan dynasty in the Nollywood industry include: Adeyemi Afolayan (Adelove), Gabriel Afolayan, Moji Afolayan, Aremu Afolayan.
