The most awkward phone designs ever!
If we’re to compare the present day’s mobile devices to those from about 15- 2o years ago then you’ll agree with me that technology has really come a very long way.
A lot of the ‘big phones’ from back in the day had very unconventional designs and we’re going to look at five of the weirdest ones:
1. The Nokia 9000- Communicator
Nokia used to be really bold with their designs at the time and this was just one out of a possible 100 of Nokia’s bold designs. It was released in 1996 and it had 2 screens.
The phone was way ahead of its time because it was running on 4MB of RAM which was huge at the time.
2. Samsung Juke
I really don’t know if they were trying to make a USB drive or a mobile phone but whatever they were thinking of led them to this design. It was released in 2007 and it could serve as a music player and also a mobile phone which was actually a genius idea at the time.
The phone had over 1.5 GB for music storage and a meager 22MB for pictures. It also had a camera.
3. Virgin Lobster 700
Someone really thought it was a good idea to name a mobile device “Virgin Lobster”. The phone was released in 2006 and one of the biggest selling points of this device at the time was that it had a Digital Audio Broadcast receiver that made it possible to watch certain tv channels and listen to certain radio stations.
The battery of the phone wasn’t really that good so you probably could watch or listen for just a limited time.
4. Nokia 7600 – The Teardrop
Like we said, Nokia was really bold and adventurous with their designs at the time so they made a whole lot of unconventional phone designs that they couldn’t continue after a while.
This particular one was released in 2003 and it supported the 3G network which was a really big deal. It had a camera of 0.3megapixels and the battery could last for at least 12 days on a single charge. I really miss the days when mobile devices had incredible battery life.
5. The Golden Buddha Phone
The creation of this phone was more about aesthetics and less about phone functionality. The phone was covered with 24K gold, pearl powder lacquer, and jade.
It cost over a thousand dollars and was made in China.
