“Food brings the family together”

The holiday season is a time for family, friends, and of course, delicious food. If you’re looking to switch things up this Christmas, why not try out some new recipes?

Here are a few ideas to get you started. Don’t forget to check out our local, fruit drink or smoothie recommendations to enjoy these dishes.

1. Jollof Rice

Now, it’s tradition to make Jollof rice on Christmas day but there is no law saying you can’t switch up the flavour.

Try Coconut Jollof rice. Just swap the normal water you would add to the cooking process with coconut milk.

2. Chicken Pepper Soup

You can make chicken pepper soup with a perfect mix of pepper soup spice, scent leaves, pepper puree and chicken, of course.

The degree of how spicy it turns out is entirely up to you.

3. Roasted Chicken

No Christmas meal is complete without cooked chicken as the main protein of choice. There are countless ways to prepare a chicken, but one classic recipe is to fry it.

Flip the script by roasting it instead with a mixture of butter, herbs, and spices. Be sure to baste the chicken frequently to keep it moist and flavorful.

4. Chicken Pies

For chicken pie, the secret is in the filling. To make the filling, you will need a mixture of minced chicken, Irish potatoes, carrots and spices.

Seal the filling in your pie dough and bake until golden brown.

5. Gizdodo

As you must have guessed, the star of this recipe is chicken gizzard. But turkey is a worthy substitute too.

Cut the plantains into cubes and fry. Make a tasty sauce with your well-seasoned and fried gizzard. Throw your fried plantain cubes into the mix and voila! Gizdodo can be served by itself or with Jollof rice.

No matter what recipes you choose, the most important thing is to have fun in the kitchen and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Happy cooking!
