These visual artists are taking the art world by storm!

Art is an essential medium of cultural representation and self-expression, and Nigeria is home to a vibrant and diverse art scene. Nigerian visual artists are creating works that captivate and inspire audiences worldwide and it is only fair that they get some recognition for their amazing works.

In this article, we will take a closer look at four Nigerian artists who are pushing the boundaries of what art can be and making a name for themselves in the global art world.

 

1. Oscar Ukonu

Oscar is a 30-year-old visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. He started drawing when he was nine and went on to study Architecture at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.

The fascinating thing about his art is the fact that he uses ballpoint pens (Biro) to create hyper-realistic portraits. In 2022, he created a campaign art for the 2022 Oscar Awards, which was breathtaking.

2. Damilola Olusegun Joy

Damilola is a 25-year-old award-winning visual artist based in Ogun state, Nigeria. She works always with charcoal and acrylic on canvas and sometimes with graphite on paper.

Her work has been featured in exhibitions in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

3. Ebuka Anyiam

27-year-old Ebuka is a self-taught visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. He also uses graphite and charcoal pencils on paper to create hyper-realistic portraits. His detailing is so good that his works are often mistaken to be digital photographs.

4. Arinze Stanley

Apart from being a visual artist, Lagos-based Arinze Stanley, is also an activist, photographer, engineer, and entrepreneur. The 30-year-old creates breathtaking hyper-realistic pencil portraits with charcoal and graphite on paper.

His work has been featured in exhibitions in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. He has also had a couple of solo exhibitions.
